The Vietnamese Podcast | Tracy La talks political leadership, education with Kenneth Nguyen

Tracy La joined The Vietnamese with Kenneth Nguyen, a podcast show, to talk about the issues impacting local immigrant and Vietnamese working-class families and why she decided to run for school board.

“We were working with families whose dads had been detained outside of their children’s schools,” Tracy La said during the podcast. “We had [Trustee] Dina Nguyen, who’s Vietnamese, she’s been there for over 15 years, I think, said at the school board meeting, ‘It’ll blow over. It’s fine. It’s not really affecting us.’”

“That made me really angry,” La continued. “And we had young Vietnamese students coming to us saying, ‘This is happening to my dad.’”

Tracy La and Kenneth Nguyen also discussed the challenges of confronting people in power and the importance of fighting for community needs.

“So, bottom line is, you’re very principled,” Kenneth Nguyen said. “And that’s important, right? Because when money comes around, you’ve got to stay principled to what you believe in and not be swayed.”
